Hey everyone, it has been a hot minute. I've been workin' on something special which has taken up a lot of my usual blogging time...But I will be announcing that soon! For now, I'm just happy to be typing away again coming at ya with an (as Claire Bear would say) fun, flirty and relatable post theme! It's called "Allie tries" which is where I try stuff and rate it. Pretty self-explanatory in the title I suppose.
Recently, my friend Laura (you can follow her cute lil' puppers on Insta @hopegeorgiahomeboy) brought up how she never uses any products that test on animals. And it got me thinking, why do we support these companies? Also, why do we want products with chemicals in them that need to be tested for safety?
I don't want that on my face and in my body!
I was also so surprised to see how many companies do test on animals. Some of my (previous) favorites being Benefit, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Nars, Origins, Maybelline...TO ONLY NAME A FEW. The more research I did the worse it got. I am shookith.
So I've decided to make a conscious effort to really pay attention to what I am buying. I'll keep updating you all on the switches I make. Also, there are a lot of brands that I totally love in the clear! To name a few: Too Faced, Tarte, Glossier and NYX are all in the clear. Here is a list of cruelty-free brands for your convenience. If a brand is cruelty-free it will have the little bunny logo on it.
So I'm not going to throw away what I already have, that would be silly. But as I start to run out of these puppy-torturing brands, I will be replacing them with puppy-loving brands. (When you put it that way, doesn't it make you want to do the same?)
I was at Target a few weeks ago and picked up a few products that are natural and cruelty-free. None are specifically "make-up" but we will get there.
Thayer's Rose Water Witch Hazel (say that 5x fast)
Damn...I wish I found this stuff sooner. I've been really interested in finding a toner so I was super pumped when I found this product. Little did I know, Witch Hazel is history's best acne fighter and skin toner. This has a light rose smell and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Dr. Bronner's Organic Lip Balms
I really wanted to love this. And at first, I did. It was creamy and had a natural smell. The packaging is so cute and I just truly wanted it to be my new favorite. But, as many know I am a chapstickoholic and I know a good-good lip moisture when I feel it. This left a really weird white film on my lips 15 min later. And I tried it a few times. So, not sure what the deal is but... it's gonna be a no from me dawg.
Pacifica Coco pure makeup removing wipes with coconut water
I was pretty skeptical about these when I picked them out because to me, coconut can go really wrong. There is nothing I dislike more than a fake coconut scent. I was pleasantly surprised to find these wipes are a true coconut water scent. They are so natural and soothing. I have already run out and plan on getting more asap.
SheaMoisture African Black Soap
I've always heard and read really good things about this brand so I was excited to try this face scrub out. I really did love this product because it is so creamy and soft while also exfoliating...It felt gentle and effective. It also smells so good. I really don't like super scented products but this is kinda magical.
Dr. Sheffields Premium Natural Extra Whitening Toothpaste
TBH I didn't get this at Target, I got it from CVS. But it is cruelty-free and that is why I bought it, so I didn't want to leave it out. This is the first cruelty-free/natural toothpaste I have tried. There are actually a lot of harmful chemicals in the majority of toothpaste. You can read even more about it here https://www.cleure.com/Toothpaste-Ingredients-to-Avoid-s/251.htm. I think that this Dr. Sheffields toothpaste is a really great minty flavor, which I know is hard to find in natural toothpaste. I ended up getting used to the aftertaste, as all toothpaste has an aftertaste, this one was a different feel. I guess that's the best to describe it. Not bad...Different.
On another note, the packaging is gorgeous and honestly, I have never seen cuter toothpaste in my life?
That's all for now, folks. If you have any suggestions, send them my way! This was a very fun experiment and I can't wait to try more :) Until next time, puppy lovers.
