You may notice something different about my blog. Well if you've been here before you definitely...most likely...will notice that I have changed the name. I have been thinking about a good name change for a while now and I couldn't come up with anything I liked until today. A random idea just sprung upon me while editing a magazine for a ski resort...no idea how those two connect but I often have random thoughts when doing unrelated tasks so I'm not ever surprised.
Formerly, my blog was named New England Girl. I started to want to change the name because I realized that I might not actually be a New England Girl. Maybe that was just where I was born, but not meant to live. I mean, I haven't even explored the world yet. There is no way I can know I am strictly New England. I do love it and it will always be my home. I still felt there was something that would be more....me I suppose.
Then, today I thought of Allie Baba....A play off of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, if you've ever heard of it. It's an old fairy tale, turn movie, turn who knows what. It is kinda random, but it also has some meaning to me. Two of my favorite people on this earth have called me Allie Baba since I can remember. So every time I hear it, it makes me think of them. Plus it's just fun to say.
Gonna change my hashtag to #4allieb because it is shorter....Not that I really need a hashtag yet but you never know, maybe it will catch on.
Nothing will change about the blog...So it's kinda a big deal but not really.
The garden has been coming along quite beautifully. We had to get some chicken wire to keep out this pesky ground hog. Luckily, ground hogs are apparently very lazy, according to the garden man at Lowes, so they won't try to get past a little fence. I also made a sign for the garden. Kat had named the house "Yellow Stone" last year kinda jokingly but I love it and thought it would be really cute to make a sign for it. Yellow stone comes from the house being yellow and there being a stone wall and walk way, just so ya know.
So far we are using a lot of mint and some lettuce. Tomatoes and pole beans are growing and we are excited to eat those...We also have cilantro so i'll definitely using that soon for tacos...obviously.
Anyone else have a garden?
It has been a very exciting week....and very tiring...and messy. This is because we (my roommates and I) have been painting our house! I know, it is a bit crazy. We are painting the entire house...every single room. But we worked super hard the past few days and go two bathrooms, two bedrooms and most of the living room done. Today Jane is doing her bedroom then we are going to finish the living room and paint the rest of the hallway and kitchen...then we are done!
That sounds like a lot but we are pretty much professionals now. Plus it has been fun playing house.
We just want a really nice place to live for our senior year and since the landlord is paying for the paint, it's just they work time we have to put it that was the biggest commitment. I'm so happy we did it. You'll see why when you see the old colors of the house. Seriously not totally sure why someone would pick bright orange for a bathroom or gray pink for a living room, but our house looked like a knock-off easter egg decoration.
I took videos and a ton of before and after pictures that I'll release once I can edit everything. But I thought I would show a little DIY bathroom decor. We really needed some art for the bathroom and obviously I was up for arts and crafts.
DIY wooden signs
My CT backyard gardening skills did come in handy though when I saw these little white grubs in the soil. We have to get some worms to eat them at a gardening store. Easy fix, just something to look out for.
We also compost a lot of waste. Kat has been composting for 3 years now so there is a solid pile going which is awesome. I think the soil is going to be amazing when we turn it.
I'll be here just waiting for some plants to pop up,
